RRR - Rise Run Run!

Recently, I was (un)fortunate enough to watch one of the biggest blockbusters of this year - RRR (Rise Roar Revolt). Firstly, let me clarify on the choice of the movie. My intent was to purely kill time and when I went to the movie hall I was given a choice between RRR and KGF - I decided chose the lesser of the two evils.

Here is the plot of the movie in simple words - Set in 1920s, the movie explores the lives of two revolutionaries who have been wronged by Britishers. Ram (Ram Charan) joins the British police force to sneak out weapons and fire up his freedom movement. Bheema (Jr NTR) is a simple tribal guy. The British empire takes away one of the tribe's girls and Bheema vows to bring her back at any cost. Ram and Bheema, unaware of each other's ambitions, become thick friends only to fall apart when their roles get conflicted. There's a Sita as well who is waiting for her Ram since years. And then there are some other characters acting as fillers.

After having seen Bahubali, I admit that I went to see this movie with very little expectations. Sadly, this movie was an altogether new low. Simply speaking, it is a 3 hours ordeal of pure rubbish. On IMDB, this movie falls under the genre of Action and Drama. I wonder if "Comedy" is a more appropriate genre.

There is no limit to the bizarreness here - Ram single handedly fights a mob of at least 10000 people (Phew!), Bheema wins an encounter with a tiger (Oooh so strong!) and the most hilarious one - Bheema lifts a bike with one hand and flips it around like its some kind of a matchstick. Go ahead...google that scene, its worth a million laughs 😆. And I have not even touched upon the cringeworthy performance of some of the foreign actors.  One more thing...there is also a leading Bollywood actress (Alia Bhatt) who should be applauded for speaking a total of 5 dialogues so well!

Jokes aside, there are some very serious flaws in the movie and I am not even talking about the weak plot and weak acting. The movie is about two alpha males with an ambition that burns like fire in them. These men are larger than life, too strong to feel any fear or pain and they are the ultimate saviors of the mankind. RRR presents an unrealistic idea of men, puts unnecessary pressure on them to rise up to the expectations and also berates them for being "weak". Its time the film makers stop stereotyping men.

The movie has a largely paternal theme to it which is disappointing considering Rajamouli had done a wonderful job with women characters in Bahubali.

Music is quite average except one song that caught my attention "Ambar se toda suraj woh pyaara". Its a sweet and soulful song. There are two dance numbers in the movie featuring the lead actors. The choreography was over the top and almost painful to watch.

Made at a cost of INR 550 crs, the movie has done more than descent business. People are flocking to the theatres, I wonder why. In my view, the makers have done nothing but made fun of the audiences' intelligence or worst, assumed the lack of it.

To anyone in the theatre watching this movie, I would say RRR - Rise, Run and Run!

PS: This movie is rated 8.9 on IMDB, believe the reviews at your own risk!

Another PS: Natu Natu song won an Oscar. Headache!
