The Humble Sattoo - A Protein powerhouse

Image
Sattoo (also called "Sattu") is often known as the poor man's protein. Sattoo is nothing but a fine powder of roasted chana. This humble ingredient is quite popular in northern states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.   There are a number of varieties of sattoo available in the market today. It is being touted as the new superfood . If the varieties and brands available in the market are too confusing, then I recommend to simply stick to making sattoo at home. All you need to do is roast gram, let it cool and grind in a mixer to make a fine powder. Your home made sattoo is ready.   Sattoo can be consumed as both savory and sweet. I prefer the savory version.  Here's a quick recipe :  Take one spoon of sattoo powder mix the powder well in a chilled glass of water Add little bit of pepper powder Few drops of lemon juice Pinch of salt 2 teaspoons of curd (optional) Shake well  Garnish with coriander / mint leaves if you like.  Add couple of ice cubes if you prefer extra chill.

RRR - Rise Run Run!

Image
Recently, I was (un)fortunate enough to watch one of the biggest blockbusters of this year - RRR (Rise Roar Revolt) . Firstly, let me clarify on the choice of the movie. My intent was to purely kill time and when I went to the movie hall I was given a choice between RRR and KGF - I decided chose the lesser of the two evils. Here is the plot of the movie in simple words - Set in 1920s, the movie explores the lives of two revolutionaries who have been wronged by Britishers. Ram (Ram Charan) joins the British police force to sneak out weapons and fire up his freedom movement. Bheema (Jr NTR) is a simple tribal guy. The British empire takes away one of the tribe's girls and Bheema vows to bring her back at any cost. Ram and Bheema, unaware of each other's ambitions, become thick friends only to fall apart when their roles get conflicted. There's a Sita as well who is waiting for her Ram since years. And then there are some other characters acting as fillers.  After having seen

Why I stopped idolizing

Image
I have spent a majority of my life idolizing celebrities. In other words, making Gods out of human beings.  During my early life , it used to be Sachin Tendulkar and Aamir Khan. One bad innings from Sachin and I would lose my appetite for the day. Any criticism of my beloved cricketer will attract angry glares from me. Aamir's movies were superior for me even when they were not.  Fan following is fun till the time the person being followed is successful and making all the right choices. Things get ugly when they behave like a mortal. Remember the time when Sachin asked for a tax exemption on his luxury car. Media started questioning his request instantly. Why would a billionaire ask for a tax exemption? Why has the government acceded to his request? Will the government be kind enough to allow a similar exemption to a common man? Others argued that he was within his legal rights to ask for the exemption. Irrespective of the moral interpretation, this particular incident broke my hea

Food hacks that changed my life!

Image
After experimenting various fad diets and health routines on my pitiable body, I have finally discovered a routine that is not only working for me physically but is also an extremely convenient one to follow. Here are few simple tricks that have worked for me in my endeavor to lead a healthy life : Delete Food delivery Apps: This decision was not easy for me. It took me days of deliberation to finally do this. But I am so glad that I took this step. It's been more than a month since I deleted Zomato and Swiggy apps from my phone. Of course, there is still an option to visit their web browser and order food but who will take that much trouble. With this, my consumption of home cooked simple food has increased and I can already feel the difference.  Outside food is not a villain : Yes I agree it is not. In fact there are many healthy options available outside our homes. Foods like salads are very hard to make at home (Not in terms of process, but the endless amount of exotic ingredie

How to overcome fear of public speaking?

Image
If you are one of those people who have felt their heart coming out of their mouth while speaking in public, here are some tips for you to calm your nerves :    Accept fear: Does "What if" syndrome plague you? What if I am laughed at or insulted or ridiculed or even worse lose my job. But does that really happen? Think about this...Do people have so much time at hand to focus their energies on criticizing just you! And will it be so bad if this indeed happened. Before you start talking, think of the worst consequences, accept that consequence(s) and Voila!  You will magically feel that the fear has receded in background.  DON'T DENY FEAR, ACCEPT IT! Content: Remember what you speak is more important than how you speak. Content is King and make sure that you know the subject well or reasonably well to be able to articulate. Though you may think that if others are just getting away with blabbering, then why take the effort of preparing content. The answer is simple...you ha

10 ways to NOT DIE

Image
Is living hard for you? Read on! One might argue why is death such a big deal, after all we are all supposed to die one day. Well, that's a big yes. But does that mean that we should stop breathing in fresh air, or stop having our favorite cup of coffee or stop laughing? In short, should we just stop living because what is the point of living? If you are one of those who has come online looking for reasons to not die, then let me try to help you. Life is Hard - Yes, it is. And for those who say it isn't...they have either cracked the code to stay eternally happy or they are simply lying. Living life wasn't easy for the Hindu Gods as well. Remember Krishna crying a river on seeing the injured feet of his best friend Sudama? Rama had to endure separation from his beloved Sita when she decided to immolate herself. They didn't find it easy to take a human birth and live and they were Gods. So start by congratulating yourself for  coming this far and living your life. Happin
